The engines arrived today.
A quick engine only run on all four. This was on a DC lab supply at 12 volts. Will do more detailed testing on both DC & DCC later.
The first impression:
- One drew a spike in current before starting. The spike was around 1.4 amps. Once it started it came down to an expected level
- The noise levels were lower than expected. One was noticeable, the others were similar to other recent models.
- All four ran slowly. Between 40 & 52 SMPH. Would expect between 70 & 80 for this case. Switchers are geared lower, but usually not this low
- At this condition, except for the one in item 1, they ran without visible hesitation. The current readings were constant implying little or no torque wobble.
Will proceed with a step by step plan to get to the bottom of noise & performance issues. This will include speeds for a nominal train, max number of cars on a 2.5% grade and power.
More later, thanks for stopping.
