My down sizing of my HO collection has lead to the question, which units to keep & why.
basically the choice is between two drive types, Athearn Genesis & Stewart Kato. There are others, but those are the units in hand.
there are two A units & one B unit of each type.
The tests have been completed on three of the six units. The same basic test sequence as was used in the 2020 motor DOE is being used in this series.
the deciding factors will be as follows:
- Max number of cars on a 2.5% grade
- Speed voltage function
- speed loss from engine only to nominal train length on level grade
- speed loss from engine only level grade to nominal train on a 2.5% grade.
- Critical current draws
- power Use levels at several conditions.
- performance characteristic
- cosmetic comparison with the actual engine
should be a short study. Check back for the results.
